Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble plays an extensive repertoire of Russian and Ukrainian folk music. Based in the Washington DC area, the group has played extensively throughout the region as well as internationally.

Together since 1997, their colorful costumes and heartfelt traditional tunes have been a favorite at venues including the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, Smithsonian Museum, Russian Embassy, Hillwood Museum, and many more. Samovar is available to play at your function using as few as two or as many as seven musicians.

Samovar spent two days in August recording its third CD, Some of Our Best Volume 3. Scheduled for release this fall, we think it will be an exciting selection of Russian folk tunes, Ukrainian polkas, and gypsy numbers. Samovar's also getting ready for the busy fall church bazaar season!

A Samovar is a metal urn, often of brass, with a spigot near its base, widely used in Russia to boil water for tea. Invented in the mid-18th century, the samovar was often a favorite place for families to gather for tea, conversation, and occasionally even music.
